What it does

A compact build guide for saving spoken thoughts to Airtable before cleanup, classification, or AI gets involved.

A voice-first workflow for getting thoughts out of your head and into a system you can use.

Use it when

You might want this if you're...

  • People who lose useful thoughts while opening the right app or deciding where they belong.
  • Builders who want a fast voice inbox with a clear saved-or-not-saved result.
  • Anyone who wants AI to work downstream without putting AI in the way of capture.

What you get

Everything you need to build and test the public V1.

  • The tested Action Button-to-Airtable flow, rebuilt with public placeholders.
  • The exact Shortcut stack and nested request shape.
  • A six-field Airtable schema with the real V1 statuses and Type choices.
  • Setup checks, troubleshooting, a synthetic example, and privacy guidance.

How to use it

Build the save path first. Add nothing until it confirms the record.

  1. Create the Airtable fields and select choices exactly as shown in the schema.
  2. Create a base-scoped record-write token and keep it inside the Shortcut.
  3. Build the Shortcut in order, including the blank-text guard and nested JSON body.
  4. Run a harmless connection test and confirm the Airtable row before adding the final ID check.
  5. Show success only after Airtable returns a record ID, then assign the Action Button and test it again.

The principle

Capture first. Enrich second. Analyze later.

The raw thought has to survive on its own. Summaries, Types, and AI can help later, but none of them get to slow down the save or rewrite what you actually said.

Privacy and reliability

Keep the raw thought safe and the success message honest.

  • Raw Thought stays unchanged. Put any summary or classification in a separate field.
  • The phone says Thought saved only after Airtable returns a created record ID.
  • Blank input should create no record. Test that branch on your own phone before normal use.
  • Use a token limited to record writes on one base. Keep private IDs, thoughts, and attachments out of public files.
  • Paul's working V1 even produced one accidental butt thought capture. The occasional harmless surprise is a tradeoff he can live with.

SYNTHETIC EXAMPLE

One made-up thought, from speech to saved row.

The example starts with one sentence about using a single Saturday errand list. Airtable keeps the raw wording and New status first. A Core Idea and Type are added only in the optional later step.
